Islamophobia in Ireland – Seminar on 11th May

ENAR Ireland (the Irish Network Against Racism) invite you to attend a seminar on Islamophobia in Ireland on 11th May in the Absolute Hotel.

This seminar will explore and strengthen understanding of Islamophobia (anti-Muslim racism) in Ireland. Guest speakers will present research findings on the experiences of people affected by Islamophobic incidents and will speak to the ways in which we can respond and address Islamophobia in Ireland.

Speakers include:

  •  James Carr, University of Limerick

 Author of the recently published  ‘Experiences of Islamophobia: Living with Racism in the Neoliberal Era”. Dr Carr’s research places him as one of Ireland foremost academic experts on Anti-Muslim Racism in Ireland. Dr Carr has also completed a follow up piece of research with the Immigrant Council of Ireland and will speak and will speak about Islamobhobia in an Irish context.

  • Teresa Buczkowska, Immigrant Council of Ireland

Teresa Buczkowska is the Integration Team Coordinator at the Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI), which she joined in 2013. Delivering diverse anti-racism projects is a cornerstone of their work. While working for the ICI Teresa completed a study of the experience of racism in the taxi industry and she co-authored a report on racism and racially motivated anti-social behaviour in social housing. 

  • Iesha Moustafa, Sport Against Racism Ireland & Diverse City

Youth activist, Iesha will present on the experience of Muslim young people in Ireland and how Islamophobia is experienced by young people with a focus on young women.
