DNA Testing

DNA testing may be required in order to establish paternity (parents of a child/ parenthood), as part of immigration proceedings. If a person refuses to have DNA testing, the court may reach its own conclusion given the circumstances of the particular case and the evidence provided. The DNA test is mostly carried out on mouth swabs – a sample taken by swabbing the inside of your mouth – taken from the mother, father and child. This is a completely painless procedure. Consent of the mother or other guardian is required before a child will be tested.

Necessary documents:

  • Passport or driving license. If these are unavailable, please bring your birth certificate;
  • You will also need to bring a recent passport size photograph;
  • Details of your PPS number.

Testers would prefer that testing be carried out on the alleged father, mother and child at the same time. If this is not possible they will arrange for the testing to be carried out within a short period of time of each other on the same day. After the testing procedure has been completed, the samples will then be sent to a laboratory overseas for analysis. Test results should be available within 3 weeks.

Fees:
Standard testing (mother, father, child): €600
Standard testing plus additional child: €800
